Velassaru Maldives
When you think of the Maldives, typically images of white sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and luxurious resorts come to mind. With its multitude of islands, the Maldives is the ultimate destination for rest and relaxation. Situated in the South Male Atoll, Velassaru Maldives is the perfect choice when seeking out the quintessential Maldivian luxury experience.
BEST TIME TO VISIT MALDIVES
High Season falls between December and February. This is the dry season in Maldives, which means a lot of sunshine and not much rain. And of course with end of year holidays, the prices can be at their highest.
Low Season is from May to November. This is going to be the rainy season in the Maldives. This means more rainfall than the rest of the year, but still some opportunities for sunshine. We have visited the Maldives though in June and found it to be quite sunny (though a cyclone had passed only one month prior). Due to the overall changes in global temperatures, the seasonality of the Maldives is not quite so predictable, which means rainy season vs. dry season is now much more of a blurred line. Visiting during this time means lower rates and much less crowds. Another bonus is that the marine life is most vibrant during the rainy season!
Shoulder Season is during the months of March to April. These months will be the ideal time to visit Maldives. You won’t have to battle crowds or high season prices, but still be able to enjoy good weather and tranquil atmosphere without all the people. Do note that prices will be up around the Easter holiday! We always recommend, if you can, trying to visit any place during the shoulder season.
AIRPORT TRANSFER / ARRIVAL
Upon arrival to the Male International Airport, you will be greeted by a Velassaru representative and escorted to the speedboat transfer dock. After a brief 30 minute boat ride, you arrive at Velassaru Island Resort. Staff then meets you at the dock and escorts you to check-in and then for a brief island tour before settling into your beautiful accommodation.
ACCOMMODATION
Velassaru Maldives includes a range of accommodation so there will surely be something to meet your preference . There are esseentially three categories of accommodation, deluxe, beach, and overwater, . All rooms come with a pool bag, beach towels, sandals, a robe and slippers.
Deluxe Bungalows & Villas
Deluxe bungalows & villas are considered the standard rooms at the resort. These are situated in the interior of the island, surrounded by lush gardens. They include an outdoor and indoor sitting space as well as an indoor-outdoor bathrooms. The Bungalows are the least expensive option whereas the Villas are slightly pricer and more luxurious.
Beachfront Villas
The next level in luxury above the Deluxe bungalows & villas, the Beach Front villas have a secluded beach front experience. The front patio leads directly out to your own private beach setting. These come with a pool option as well as indoor/outdoor bathrooms.
Overwater Bungalows & Villas
The ultimate Maldivian luxury stay includes an overwater accommodation. Situated over the pristine blue waters of Velassaru Island, these overwater rooms are as dreamy as they seem. Falling asleep to the sound of water moving underneath is an experience hard to forget. Some of these overwater options include your own private plunge pool and some even have glass floors to watch the marine life below.
RESTAURANTS
Velassaru’s dining options provide an array of tasty cuisine. With five different dining locations as well as two bars, you will not be very hungry during your stay!
Teppanyaki - located overwater, the Japanese fusion restaurant serves up fresh sushi & sashimi along with other innovative asian dishes. Open for dinner only.
Vela - an unending gourmet buffet showcasing international fare as well as local Maldivian dishes. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Etesian - infused with notes of the Mediterranean, Etesian features an intimate culinary experience. Open only for dinner.
Fen Bar - serving your favorite reds and whites, this unique bar setting includes comfy beanbags and luxurious oversized daybeds. A perfect place for a sundowner.
Turquoise - an upscale setting to enjoy lunch under the swaying palm trees. Their fresh juices are a highlight!
Sand - the ultimate luxury dining experience, sitting right up next to the calm water and enjoy a perfect Maldivian sunset. The dishes are upscale Pan-Indian Ocean specialties. This was our favorite dining experience of our stay! Open only for dinner.
Chill Bar - nestled on a dock over the water, the Chill bar serves up a variety of delicious drinks and tapas-style plates. This is another perfect spot to enjoy the sunset.
AMENITIES
DIVE & WATER SPORTS CENTER
Whether you are a first-timer or master diver, the dive center provides ample opportunities to experience the vibrant marine life surrounding the area. If you prefer to stay above the water, you can explore various watersports activities including water-skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, parasailing, catamaran sailing, kayaking, and even glass-bottom kayaks.
Excursions
If simply enjoying paradise is not enough, you can explore different aspects of the area through various excursion opportunities! These include big game fishing, sunset cruise, private snorkeling trip, dolphin cruise, night fishing, and visiting a sand bank in the middle of the ocean.
Velassaru Spa
Perhaps the most picturesque building on the property, the spa is situated on its own overwater platform. With 10 overwater treatment rooms, this is arguably the most peaceful place on the island. With a variety of treatments on offer, you can find anything from massages and body scrubs t0 manicures and pedicures, and much more. A highlight of the spa experience is the private hydropool that extends out over the lagoon.
Complimentary ACtivities
You will receive free snorkel gear for the duration of your stay, which allows you to explore the house reef at your own pace. There is a free morning cruise that happens several times a week, as well as sunset yoga on the beach. It is a very relaxing way to finish off the day. Other free events include movie nights, white parties, beach BBQ’s, and of course meeting Santa over the holidays. Another fun amenity is the ice cream bicycle that rides around twice a day, providing the perfect way to refresh in the middle of a hot day.
